Living and Leading Well in Chaotic Times
We are living through a time of profound transition. Familiar systems strain, long-held assumptions falter, and ways of life that once felt stable no longer hold in the same way. An old story is coming to an end. What comes next has not yet fully arrived.
Between these two movements—one receding, one still forming—there is a space of uncertainty and possibility. The New Story Community exists to support people learning how to live and lead well in that space.
Within the New Story Community, we name this moment in three movements:
An Old Story—shaped by extraction, control, and separation—is ending and unraveling.
A New Story—life-giving and rooted in deeper belonging—is arriving, though its timing and form are known only to the Creator.
Between these lies a Liminal Space: a threshold marked by uncertainty, few familiar landmarks, and few reliable signposts—best traveled in community, rather than alone.
The New Story Community is a spiritually grounded formation community stewarded by Bill Grace. It brings together people who sense that responding to this moment requires more than new strategies or solutions, and who are seeking a deeper orientation for how to live.
This orientation arises from a simple recognition: an Old Story is ending, a New Story is arriving in ways we cannot yet control or define, and the space between them—a liminal space—requires formation, practice, and community rather than certainty.
This is not leadership development as it is commonly understood. It is not focused on skill-building, organizational change, or problem-solving. It is formation: a way of attending to how one’s life is shaped, guided, and grounded when familiar maps no longer suffice.
The work unfolds within a learning community shaped by presence, shared practice, and mutual care. It draws on years of lived experience, reflection, and relationship—with Spirit, with wisdom traditions, and with one another.
What the New Story Community Is
The Work We Do
The New Story Community offers a small number of formation programs, along with ongoing ways for alumni to remain connected and supported.
These gatherings take place primarily online, with occasional in-person moments. They include periods of silence, shared reflection, teaching, poetry, story, and small-group practice. Between gatherings, participants engage in simple, consistent practices that support attentiveness and integration.
The emphasis is not on accumulating insight, but on learning how to live differently over time. Understanding emerges through sustained presence, communal reflection, and a willingness to remain with questions that do not resolve quickly.
Who This Is For
This work is for people who recognize that the prevailing ways of living and leading are no longer adequate, and who feel called to orient themselves differently in response.
Many who come are stewards, leaders, or people who carry responsibility—often without clear answers—within families, organizations, or communities. What they share is not a particular role, but a readiness to engage regular practice, honest reflection, and the discipline of showing up consistently.
This work is not designed for those seeking immediate clarity, practical fixes, or techniques for managing change. It does not aim to repair systems or optimize institutions tied to what is already passing away.
You may have found your way here without knowing exactly what you were looking for.
Perhaps something in the way the world is changing has begun to feel personal — not just political or environmental, but interior.
Perhaps familiar ways of striving, leading, or making sense of things no longer feel sufficient, even if what might replace them is still unclear.
If so, this community exists for people learning how to remain attentive, grounded, and faithful in that in-between space.
If you are curious about what is offered here, the Programs page describes the forms this work takes. If you are unsure whether this community is for you, that uncertainty may be part of the discernment itself. Nothing here is meant to persuade – only to name what is being held.
