Alumni in Action
Alumni in Action is a formation-based community for alumni of New Story programs who feel called to move from reflection into lived response.
The work of the New Story Community is not meant to remain abstract. Its teachings are lived through a rhythm of contemplation and action, as insight is gradually woven into daily life, vocation, and responsibility to the world.
Alumni in Action supports participants as they take action on behalf of the New Story in ways that are grounded, faithful, and aligned with what has already been received. This is not a space for generating new ideas or frameworks, but for living out what has been formed.
Overview
Who This Community Is For
Alumni in Action is for alumni who sense that their season of primary listening is giving way to action.
Participants are people who:
Feel called to integrate New Story teachings into their work, service, or vocation
Welcome accountability and communal support as they take steps that may feel unfamiliar or difficult to sustain alone
Are willing to act without certainty about outcomes
This community is not for those who are still primarily in a listening or discernment phase. It is for those ready to step forward while remaining rooted in reflection and practice.
What Participants Engage In
The program begins with a one-day retreat (in person or virtual), focused on clarifying an action focus aligned with each participant’s sense of vocation.
Action may take many forms, including:
Integrating New Story insights into existing professional or volunteer roles
Helping others become aware of New Story wisdom
Creating programs or circles that support connection with Creation
Replicating elements of the Stewards or Seven Foundational Qualities programs within appropriate contexts
Following the retreat, participants gather monthly in a Circle of Practice via Zoom. These gatherings provide space to share progress, reflect on what is emerging through action, and receive support from others engaged in similar work.
Participants also meet weekly with an accountability buddy to support continuity and sustained engagement.
Why a Circle of Practice
Many people find the vision of the New Story compelling, yet difficult to live into amid the pressures of daily life.
Circles of Practice exist to support the integration of insight into action. Through regular, disciplined reflection within a community of trust, learning deepens and the likelihood of sustained action increases.
The circle is not a place for instruction or evaluation. It is a space for accompaniment.
What This Community Is Not
Alumni in Action is not:
A project management program
A grant-funded or institutionally supported initiative
A training program or leadership development pathway
It does not provide resources, funding, or organizational backing for action projects. It is also not a space for developing new teachings or original frameworks. The focus is on living out and transmitting what has already been received.
The Rhythm of the Journey
The Alumni in Action journey unfolds over nine months and follows a steady, repeatable rhythm designed to support depth rather than urgency.
Participants begin with a one-day retreat to clarify an action focus. They then gather monthly in Circles of Practice via Zoom and meet weekly with an accountability buddy. Between gatherings, participants remain engaged with their chosen action, allowing reflection and response to shape the work over time.
Monthly gatherings typically last 1.5–2 hours. Weekly accountability meetings are usually brief, around 20 minutes.
The program operates within the New Story Community’s gift economy. There is no fee.
One way the community understands vocation is as the place where the world’s deep need meets your deep gladness.
Participants are not expected to arrive with clarity. The work unfolds through practice, conversation, and faithful response to what is being asked.
